WHY PILGRIMAGE?
"Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage."
Psalm 84:5 (NIV)
Psalm 84:5 (NIV)
The wonder of travel is the opportunity to enter into a context, or a story, that’s different than our own. The immersion into the story of a country, culture, city, historical character, or even a piece of art, enriches our life as we explore God's good creation. Travel facilitates a newfound appreciation of the beauty and diversity in the world.
Travel also reveals the common sufferings, trials and tragedies of the human experience. In the midst of our many differences in language, food, customs, religion, and ways of life, we learn that we really aren’t that different. We understand that life is an arduous and tragic struggle where we are all navigating how to thrive in a broken world.
This paradox creates longings within us. Longings that point to the reality that this isn't our true home. Pilgrimage is about traveling to thin places in community with others to encounter the heart of God through creation, content and conversation.
Ultimately, what makes a trip a pilgrimage is the intention behind it and the presence you bring. The goal of pilgrimage isn't to wander endlessly, but rather, to find our true spiritual home, often through a sacred encounter. In the labyrinth of life, many have discovered the Way of Jesus because he tells us not only who we are, but also shows us how we were meant to live.
There are countless stories of people who have taken Jesus’ invitation to follow him to heart. Craft Pilgrim designs pilgrimages around these stories; stories that aim to inspire and unite us for the road ahead. Together we enter into these stories through the context of travel and have a bit of good fun too in the process.
This is travel...with purpose.
We curate pilgrimages designed to give travelers a unique experience around various themes such as faith/work, spiritual/leadership formation, justice/reconciliation, calling/discernment, and art/activism. These are not all traditional walking pilgrimages but we incorporate pilgrimage principles into the travel experience.
If you are part of a educational institution, professional network or faith community and desire to provide a group travel experience around these themes (or others), we can partner together to provide custom content, logistics, and facilitation depending on desired outcomes.
